We live in an incredible time; if you’ve ever been interested in making, recording, mixing, or producing music, there’s no excuse to not follow through with it, everything is available if you look for it! Here are a bunch of resources to make music for free (*nothing here is pirated/torrented, it’s all freeware*). Enjoy :)

FREE DIGITAL AUDIO WORKSTATION (DAW)

This is the program that you record with, install your plugins to, and mix/master your tracks in.

Here is a playlist of tutorials for Reaper as well to help you get started. Recording and audio production/mixing can seem daunting at first, but if you follow along with tutorials and just mess around with plugins, you’ll learn fast enough!

FREE DRUM VST/SAMPLES - POP, ROCK, METAL

A VST (Virtual Studio Technology) is a plugin simulation of an effect (EQ, Reverb, Delay etc), or it is a plugin built from sampling live instruments (Piano, drums, guitar, etc) to be played back on a keyboard or other pieces of hardware. Here are some great sounding free drum plugins to write with, play on an electronic drum kit/MIDI keyboard, or to use in your tracks!

FREE GUITAR & BASS AMP / CAB SIMS

Instead of mic-ing up a real amp or cab (or if you have neither of those and no mics), try using some software amps/cabs! You’d be surprised by how good the tones you can get out of some free amp sims can be.
